Never Lose Hope!

Hope is found in Jesus!  He is our living hope (1 Peter 1:2) and the enemy is regularly attempting to detach us from having hope by attempting to frame the difficult circumstances we go through with his accusing, hopeless narrative!

Job, one of God’s great men of faith, who tightly held onto his hope in God even in the midst of horrible adversity, said this:

“Though he slay me, I will hope in him; yet I will argue my ways to his face.” Job 13:15

Your Spiritual House

1 Peter 2:4-5 – “As you come to him, a living stone rejected by men but in the sight of God chosen and precious, you, like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.”

In New Testament scripture, we see three different models of Jewish culture that describe the church & God’s people:
  1.  Agricultural – Jesus said “I am the vine & you are the branches” in John 15:5 & in Luke 3:9  He said “every tree (person) who does not bear fruit will be cast off and thrown in the fire.”
  2. Anatomical – Jesus said “the eye was the lamp of the body”  giving light to the body in Luke 11:34-36 & Paul spoke of the church  a “body” in Romans 12 & 1 Corinthians 12.
  3. Architectural – Matthew 5:15 says the light in us gives light to our “house”; Matthew 7:23-27 likens our life to a “house” that needs to be built on the Rock which is Jesus; Matthew 10:6 describes Israel as a “house”; Matthew 12:25-27 says “a house divided against itself cannot stand” & Matthew 12:44 describes our personal life as a house–when demons are cast out of persons it is like “our house swept clean”. Paul also used this analogy by describing our physical bodies as “temples” of the Holy Spirit in 1 Corinthians 6:19.
