Three years ago we had Surprise Sithole, a prophetic apostle from South Africa with us for a long weekend. He is one of our friends and dear brothers in the Lord doing an amazing work with the Bakers in Africa. During one of the meetings as people were up near the front he turned to my 8 yr old (at the time) grandson Enoch and prophesied that he was “A Legacy Carrier”. I vividly remember this word because it had such amazing spiritual value. I have transferred my legacy to my children and one of them is Ryan. Ryan is now passing his legacy of righteousness and devotion to Jesus to Enoch and this word says Enoch will also pass his legacy to his children and that way his children’s children. What is a legacy? Webster’s defines it 2 ways: 1. A gift by will especially of money or other personal property; a bequest;
2. Something transmitted by or received from an ancestor or predecessor or from the past. Ex: Her artistic legacy was passed onto her children. A legacy is like the blessing passed from one generation to the next generation.Abraham’s blessing was passed to Isaac and Jacob and Israel. It was this blessing for the firstborn that moved Jacob to deceive his brother Esau to have! While the word legacy is only found once in Proverbs and it has a negative connotation (legacy of fools) the principle of transferring the blessing, revelation, virtue, family integrity and name is a timeless cultural tradition in nearly every race and culture. Summed up it means we need to think long term and think generationally! What we do either benefits or it hurts the next generation. We have heard a lot about generational sin & ancestral curses. We need to be concentrating on passing generational blessings. Passing a legacy of devotion to marriage, to God, to family to our children’s children. We should transfer all the revelation we received and walked out to the next one! “But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear Him, and His righteousness to children’s children, to such as keep His covenant, and to those who remember His commandments to do them.” – Psalms 103:17 We can also make sure one generation’s ceiling is the next one’s floor. We need to pass the fruit of hard fought spiritual battles to the next generation so they don’t have to fight the same spiritual battle the last generation conquered. Choose to be a legacy carrier! God promises generational blessing to those who are godly legacy carriers! |
