In Luke 12:32 Jesus makes an astounding promise to His disciples that sounds almost unimaginable! “Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has chosen gladly to give you the kingdom.” This means Father God has committed to freely give us all He has! His Kingdom is His will, His rule, His dominion, His authority and His light shining into and obliterating all areas of the kingdom of darkness (Col. 1:13), which is satan’s rule on the earth. Guillermo Maldonado, in his book The Kingdom of Power, says it this way: “Wherever God’s kingdom governs, it is visibly demonstrated, and every work of the enemy must depart because darkness cannot remain in the same territory occupied by His light. For example, when the kingdom of God comes upon an individual, then sickness, sin, wickedness, and any other work of hell must flee.” Jesus then tells us who we are in this world and says we are to light up this world with the Kingdom of Heaven, the rule and reign of our King!
“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16 So for us to shine our light in the world we have to do the works of Jesus and others will see them! Jesus said, “before men”. For this to occur, it won’t happen in the privacy of our prayer closet or in our “quiet time”. It won’t happen when we study the bible or listen to teachings. This happens we are out and about “before men”. Your good works are the same works Jesus said He was doing when John the Baptist sent a servant to ask if Jesus was truly the Messiah! “And He answered them, “Go and tell John what you have seen and heard: the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, the poor have good news preached to them.” – John 7:22 When asked what these works of God we do would look like, Jesus first said believing in HIM, the One whom the Father sent, was the first crucial part! Then He made it clear if we believe, we will do these works ourselves! Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent.” – John 6:28 Jesus added His disciples could even do greater works than HIM! “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father. – John 14:12 But Jesus also warned us that we can’t be hidden; we must do these things out in the open. They are not to be even hidden even among believers only in a safe, cool church building. That’s why we are to do these things as we are out and about! Matthew 10:7-8 says “As you go…”,proclaim this message of the kingdom, and then DO IT! Believers DO because they believe! BE THE LIGHT! |
