Trampled Underfoot

But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them —bringing swift destruction on themselves. Many will follow their depraved conduct and will bring the way of truth into disrepute. 2 Peter 2:1-2

We have a serious problem right now in America: Truth is lacking! Isaiah 59:15 NIV says, “Truth is nowhere to be found.” People are lying to get their way, especially politicians who are untrustworthy and are creating more problems than good! But it is the spiritual leaders and preachers who have led us to where we are by refusing to confront lies. Because the church has allowed itself to buy into falsehood the church has lost credibility!

The church has so emphasized “love,” that we’ve thrown out the truth to accommodate people. The Bible is clear that the church is the same as the rest of humanity but the EKKLESIA-those called OUT of darkness. The problem is that without the truth we can’t be changed. Without “speaking the truth IN love,”(Eph 4:15) there is just a sappy acceptance and toleration of anything and everything, under the guise of acceptance and love. This has led us to a state where lies and deception is rampant and not being confronted.

If there is no more “common sense,” it’s because the church has abdicated its role of bringing the truth into a culture. 1 Tim 3:15 says the church is the “pillar & support” for the truth in a culture! If there is no more “common sense” in people, people will believe anything. When “common sense” seems no longer common, it is because one of two things:

1) truth tellers are silent or AWOL; or
2) fools have taken ahold of and drive the conversation;

I believe this second one is what has happened. I read that 10 million Christians passively “sat out” the last election cycle, because they felt their choices were bad. While this article is focused on truth and not politics, believers better realize we have to fight our own battles. Yes the Lord will allow us to win when we shouldn’t, but we can’t run and hide!  Jesus said in Mt 5:13- “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampledunderfoot.”

And that is exactly what is happening. Believers are being “trampled underfoot.” Religious freedom is being attacked on multiple fronts today and the church is asleep.

Sometimes you only have one time to speak, one time to act, then it’s too late. Things are being said in the society and media today but no righteous person is willing to speak up with truth to rebuff things that defy God’s design and truth. Truth is NOT relative. Foolishness, even if loudly applauded, is still foolishness. When the church is silent and unseen, bad stuff happens.Dietrich Bonhoeffer, talking about how the church looked the other way when the Nazis came into Germany, said, “Not to speak is to speak, not to act is to act.”

Today it’s time for the silent majority start speaking up and raising heaven! Yes it’s a time for prayer, but prayer alone by itself has never worked unless someone was out there being backed up by it. God has called ALL believers to speak up and speak out for the truth, to confront the loud-mouthed liars who have hijacked the mouthpieces in our society and make them at least listen to the truth. Paul called the gospel the gospel of TRUTH. Stop worrying about who you might “offend the sensibilities of.” Righteous people MUST stand up and preach the truth in love!
